DEAR READER | ||
PFI Biotechnology: Real-world Research Inauguration of the PFI Power-to-Gas Pilot plant and formation of the biotech marketing company PFI-Bioraffinerietechnik GmbH confirm that our research efforts have overcome further obstacles on the way to industrial-scale implementation. As researchers at PFI Biotechnology we see this as a wonderful endorsement of our work. We therefore continue to focus our attention on projects promising to open up ever new horizons while keeping our feet firmly on the ground and keeping an eye on economic viability. Wishing you a pleasant read Dr. Stefan Dröge and Benjamin Pacan |

PFI Now Authorised Compost Sampler As an authorised test laboratory, PFI has for many years been analysing compost and fermentation products within the RAL Quality Assurance program of the Federal German Compost Quality Assurance Organisation (Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost e.V., BGK). Hitherto, samples had to be taken by external service providers. However, PFI now has its own BGK-trained and listed sampler and can take samples as and when required.

«TrickleZyme» Project «Growth Limited and Continuous Enzyme Production in a Trickle Bed Reactor» is the name of a project jointly initiated by PFI Biotechnology and Oklahoma State University (OSU) in early June 2015. The project has a duration of three years and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research through its Bioeconomy International program. The main focus of study is on cellulase production by enzyme-producing filamentous fungi, which cease to grow when the culture medium is modified yet continue to produce enzymes.

Interim Results of «Bio-EOL» Project The «Biobased World» congress held at the ACHEMA chemical engineering show in June was the venue selected by PFI Biotechnology to report interim results of the current CORNET Bio-EOL Project. In a paper entitled «Sustainable Recycling of Polylactate Based Waste», Dr. Michael Müller presented hydrolysis technique developed at PFI which permits degradation of polylactide (PLA) to the fundamental building block lactic acid which can be reused for production of new PLA in a cradle-to-cradle approach. |
